It’s been three years since the release of Big Sean’s last album I Decided and fans have waited an extended period of time for some new music from the Detroit rapper. Since the release of his debut studio album Finally Famous in 2011, Sean Don has been through life situations and obstacles that tied into the elevation of his art through the years. His classic album Dark Sky Paradise (released in 2015) was a pivotal moment in his career that will definitely stand the test of time. Quite frankly, his highly anticipated studio album Detroit 2 will do the same.

On his birthday (Mar 25), Sean took to social media to announce the release of his fifth studio album with a clip a little under three minutes. During the announcement, the 32-year-old rapper previewed new music and talked about his hometown of Detroit, MI and his inspirations:

Detroit. To me it’s home, but I feel like it’s more than just a city — it’s a mentality. What’s crazy is the things that I thought would destroy me came full circle to fuel me. I been going back listening to music that impacted me growing up. You know, songs I hear on the radio every day but I didn’t even realize was only poppin in Detroit. It feel like a whole new energy in the city — it’s inspiring to watch, to the point it inspired me to go harder than ever. It’s like the phoenix rising out the ashes.

Detroit 2 is a jam packed body of work to say the least. Equipped with 21 records in total, Sean Don has joined forces with the late Nipsey Hussle, Post Malone, Travis Scott, Post Malone, Young Thug, Lil Wayne, Tee Grizzley, Eminem and more! Despite being uninspired over recent years while going through depression, it’s not only great to see that Big Sean is in better spirits these days — but it’s a feeling of relief to hear him delivering in a way that makes him sound just as hungry as he was back in 2010. Be sure to stream Detroit 2 below.
